Building Cyton questions: 4 layer required, BOM vs schematic

$

I had a few doubts regarding the cyton board PCB. I hope you could help me with those. Firstly, is the PCB a control impedance board or a normal 4-layered FR4 PCB will do. Secondly, does the PCB need to be 4-layered or will it work even if it is only single or double sided(Is it something related to noise reduction?). Thirdly, the BOM lists some other parts and the schematics list some other for a few components such as U5, R10,R11 and D9. Which one to be finally consulted the BOM one or the schematic one.

Please help me with these as quickly as possible, as it is for my undergrad project and the deadlines are nearing.

Hi all,

I am quite new to this, so sorry for bothering you.

I was wondering if there was a way to export the various brain bands to an excel file for data analysis.
That is, the data from the FFT.

Thanks for your help!

RFD-77101 discontinued - how to build Ganglion?

Hi there,

I'm keen to build myself a Ganglion but I see that the RFD-77101 Bluetooth module is discontinued at all the major electronics suppliers. Is there an alternative available or a place where I can obtain one of these?

Hi,

I'm not sure so I want to ask. What blue LED should do after move the small switch on the right side of the board from “OFF” to “PC”? Blink?
What can I do if it doesn't blink?

Error with OpenBCI data. 'Packet dropped!'

Hi,
I'm working with OpenBCI a few months ago in Windows 7. I never modified any code on the board and i have always the same problem: testing the Cyton with a know signal (sinusoid), the data has lost packets.
First, acquiring through OpenBCI GUI and analyzing data, these losses appears:

image

Then, testing with OpenVIBE & OpenBCI, the problem is highlighted in the acquisition: 'Packet dropped!':

I have already changed the latency time settings and the transfer sizes according to the tutorial of OpenBCI, and the problem persist. I have also tested different ports and different hardware configurations for sampling, but isn´t solve.
What can this fault be caused or what can I prove or modify for solve this problem?
Thanks for the space!

Timestamps to sync stimulus and EEG vs external hardware trigger

$

I'm working on a P300-based appilcation where data should be synced with the stimulus displayed on the screen. I can't use hardware triggers.
I read the EEG data from the serial port and have a high precision timmer that logs the exact time when the stimulus is displayed. I can also log the exact time when the first eeg data is received or when the request to start openBCI is sent (after writting 's' to the serial port to start OpenBCI).

What would be the best way to sync eeg with the stimulus?
Is it possible to get the internal clock of OpenBCI for each sample? Or at certain controlled times during the session (I see some sort of timestamp at Cyton data format but I am not sure how to use it, any help will be appreciated if that's the best method).

Can't connect the WiFi Shield to my network

Hi, I adquired a Cyton + Daisy board and a WiFi Shield a few mounths ago and everything was working fine.
Recently, I updated the firmware of the Cyton board and of the WiFi Shield. Now, when I turn on the WiFi Shield, the D2 LED Indicator does not turns on and the WiFI Shield does not joins to my wireless network, and I cannot also
connect my computer or phone directly to the wireless network broadcasted by the WiFi Shield, because it does not appear anywhere.
The WiFi Shield is being powered by a 4 x AA rechargeable batteries.
Any idea what to do now?
Thanks

Impedance measuring issue with OpenBCI_GUI_4.0.3. standalone (OSX)

Hello,

On the same OSX the OpenBCI_GUI_4.0.3. standalone doesn't seem to measure impedance, however the OpenBCI_GUI_3.3.2 does.  I tested this on El Captain and Sierra.

Is this a common issue with Cyton or do I have something not setup right?

I made a video:

2:20 min | OpenBCI_GUI_3.3.2 - working;
3:20 min | OpenBCI_GUI_4.0.3 - not working

Issues with Firmware upload

Hi

I am trying to upload the firmware to the cyton board and I am facing some issues.

When I try to upload the code using Arduino IDE, an error pops up stating: "No target found". When I try to get the status using the GUI, it states "Error reading from Serial port. Try a different port?" I am using Ubuntu and virtual com. As I understand VC for FTDI is inbuilt for Linux kernal.

I would really appreciate some assistance on this.

Sleep tracking headband

Hi there,

I was thinking to sleep with a Ganglion board (the definition of a geek ?) and a headband fitted with 4 flat electrodes (& pulse oximetry).
And then use the OpenBCI Python driver to implement ICA and SleepNet (Python) for postprocessing.

Do any of you do it or have you done it for sleep research ?
What was your experimental setup (headband/mask/headset ? electrode type ? ganglion board/battery fixation ?..).

For processing in real time & neurofeedback during sleep, anybody tried
- to use available io pins on the microcontroler of the OpenBI boards to read analog inputs (from an oximeter for exemple) or set digital outputs for feedback cues (to blink a light, play a sound,...) ?
- to use the ARM Cortex M0 (Ganglion) or the PIC32 (Cyton) to compute real time FFT to detect slow waves ?
Best,
Jean-François

he guys i am trying to make open bci cyton by myself using the schematics  and bom given. but i am stuck in a tough spot as i cant find RFD22301 as they are saying its obsolete. there were other passive components that were not available but i replaced them with another component with similar configuration. so can you suggest an alternate component which will replace RFD22301. and if so then will it be a problem?

4 channels on the ganglion, yet room for 61 sampling locations - why?

I'm new to OpenBCI and BCI in general. What is not clear to me is why there are only 4 channels on the ganglion and yet the Ultracortex Mark IV headset has 61 locations. This seems not logical. Why is this? Can multiple locations be measured through one channel?

Kind regards
